Passion Flower As Effective as Oxazepam for General Anxiety Disorder
A double-blind randomized trial published in the Journal of Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics found Passiflora extract to relieve anxiety as effectively as oxazepam, a prescription anti-anxiety drug similar to diazepam (Valium®) and alprazolam (Xanax®). According to the researchers, "The results suggest that Passiflora extract is an effective drug for the management of generalized anxiety disorder, and the low incidence of impairment of job performance with Passiflora extract compared to oxazepam is an advantage."1 SEREDYN contains the recommended dose of Passiflora extract.

Passion Flower Relieves Anxiety-Related Symptoms of Alcohol, Benzodiazepine, and Opiate Withdrawal
Individuals withdrawing from anxiety-reducing drugs such as benzodiazepines (e.g. Valium®, Xanax®, Ativan®), opiates, and alcohol often experience intense anxiety, irritability, nervousness, and restlessness, and general mental discomfort. Various randomized, controlled studies indicate that Passiflora extract, similar to the extract found in SEREDYN, helps to relieve the anxiety-related symptoms of sedative and opiate withdrawal.2,3,4
[Note that abrupt withdrawal from alcohol and benzodiazepines can be life-threatening. If you are currently taking alcohol, benzodiazepines, or opiates on a daily basis, consult a physician before stopping. The research above indicates that the ingredients in SEREDYN can be helpful for anxiety-related emotions induced by discontinuation of sedative drugs, but SEREDYN should not be considered a replacement for any prescription medication or a treatment for alcohol, benzodiazepine, or opiate dependence.]

Combination of Valerian and Passion Flower Reduces Anxiety Symptoms
An article published in the Quarterly Review of Natural Medicine reported that Valerian and Passion Flower, when used in combination, reduce symptoms in people suffering from anxiety.5 SEREDYN combines effective doses of Valerian and Passion Flower extract.

Review of L-Theanine Research
A growing body of research demonstrates the ability of L-theanine to calm both mind and body. The dose of L-theanine found in SEREDYN directly stimulates the production of alpha brain waves6, creating a state of mental relaxation and concentration similar to that obtained by meditation. And L-theanine stimulates the release of GABA7, a neurotransmitter that reduces anxiety and provides a sense of calm and well-being. L-theanine may relieve mental distress associated with PMS and menopause8. Research using hypertensive rats demonstrates that L-theanine can lower blood pressure9, although similar research has not yet been performed in humans. The ability of L-theanine to relieve anxiety is only now being fully appreciated.
